Lios Póil resist late rally to take junior title

Lios Póil 1-7, Béal an Mhuirthead 1-5

It was all going according to plan for the Kerry side when they forged 1-3 to 0-1 ahead after 20 minutes with Damien Ó Cearbhaill scoring their goal.

However Liam Seosamh MacPaidín was exerting a lot of influence around the middle of the field for the Mayo lads and they were in with a shout after Mac Paidín and Donncha Ó Dubháin kicked over a point apiece which left Lios Póil 1-4 to 0-2 in front at half time.

The second half developed into a lively affair after Mac Paidín cut the deficit further with two quick points on the change over.

The fat was really in the fire a couple of minutes later when Andruí Ó Howard out-jumped the Lios Póil keeper to punch home the equalising goal.

The Kerry side moved to try and add a bit more punch in attack by bringing on Oilibhear Ó Brosnacháin and he brought the best out of the Belmullet keeper who denied him a goal with a great save.

It took Lios Póil until the 47th minute to register their first score of the second half, a point by Deaglán Ó Suilleabhaín and that scored finally settled the nerves, and they held off a spirit late rally by the Mayo side to take the spoils.
