LEINSTER Council chairman Nicky Brennan rubbished suggestions that the defeat of Dublin and Kildare in the provincial championship will have serious financial implications for the GAA.

“I’m certainly not taking that view,” Mr Brennan said yesterday. “I’ll accept that if Kildare and Dublin had won through on Sunday, they would come close to filling Croke Park for the semi-final. Many people said last year that if Dublin or Meath weren’t in the Leinster final that the game would be dead and the attendance would be way down.

“At things turned out we had as good an occasion as ever. We had with Laois with Kildare in the final. It was truly a magnificent spectacle which drew a huge crowd.
