Cusack warns of strike by players

THE new chairman of the Gaelic Players Association, Cork’s Donal Óg Cusack, has issued a thinly-veiled warning that inter-county players will go on strike unless next year’s GAA Congress makes “real” progress on players’ rights and conditions.

The All-Ireland winning goalkeeper warned Croke Park chiefs that “the time will have come for direct action” unless the association begins to take the issue seriously.

“There’s an impression that if the GAA throw us a bone every now and again, keep us happy, keep us from complaining, eventually we’ll go away. That’s not going to happen,” he told the AGM of the GPA in Portlaoise.
