Kevin Dineen slotted over a point for Colman’s in the first minute and they were never headed after that, picking off scores with ease. On top in every line, the north Cork side added points by Shane Cotter and Alan O’Connor before disaster struck Chríost Rí in the eighth minute.
A high dropping ball into the city side’s square rolled loose to goalkeeper Eric Kennedy, whose despairing attempt to kick clear ended in the net. With Cotter and Mark O’Connor dominant at midfield for Colman’s, and Padraig Cotter a powerful presence in the rearguard, the Capwell school were under the cosh for the rest of the half, and trailed by 12 points (1-9 to 0-0) at the break.
Críost Rí finally got on the scoresheet with a Padraig Butler point in the 34th minute. The Fermoy side were however still in control and on 42 minutes Adrian Mannix cut through the cover before hammering home a goal from 20 yards. Kevin Dineen kept adding the points and both Ricky Fraher and substitute Philip Mahon goaled before the end, which meant Colman’s were well out of sight long before the final whistle.
