Preferred over Eamon Fitzmaurice for the centre-back position, the Glenflesk man had to draw on all his experience to see off the Cork challenge a challenge which, he admits, was as tough as any of the previous games against the Rebel county.

"We got what we expected; one hell of a battle from Cork. Mentally we were prepared for it and it stood to us. There were similarities between this and the Leinster hurling final the previous week. We had seen how Wexford came at Kilkenny with all guns blazing and Cork did the very same to us today.
