Monaghan win avoids relegation

Monaghan dramatically avoided relegation from Division 1A of the Suzuki Ladies National Football League yesterday with a win over 2004 All-Ireland semi-finalists Kerry, 2-9 to 1-9.

The victory pushed Monaghan from the bottom of the table up to fourth and into a place in the quarter-finals, where they face Waterford, who finished top of Division 1B after a surprise victory over Dublin yesterday, 2-11 to 0-11.

Cork, Mayo, Galway and Monaghan qualified for the quarter-finals from Division 1A while in 1B Waterford, Meath, Dublin and Roscommon reached the knockout stages.

Cork chalked up a 2-10 to 2-9 win over Mayo in Roslevan.

In Division 1B, Meath maintained their recent good run with an impressive away win in Tyrone, 3-6 to 1-11. The Royals finish joint top of the group with Waterford, on eight points.

Dublin join the pair in the quarter-finals, but they can count themselves lucky after an inept display against Waterford in St Anne's Bohernabreena, 2-11 to 0-11.
