Triple crown in Kilkenny’s sight

KILKENNY are in line to create a bit of history of their own if they can win the Guinness All-Ireland hurling final next month – and complete the first treble since Cork in 1978.

Triple crown in Kilkenny’s sight

Interestingly, that year the Rebels beat the Cats in the final, when manager Brian Cody was full-forward.

The history books show that Kilkenny won the All-Ireland titles of 1911, 1912 and 1913, but they were awarded the 1911 championship after Limerick refused to replay the Munster final. In the interim period, up to last year, they recorded the double four times - 1932/’33, 1974-’75, 1982-’83 and 1992-’93. However, in each of the following years they failed to make it back to the All-Ireland final.
