GAA close to agreeing hurling boss

Jim O’Sullivan

According to President Sean Kelly, the Hurling Development Committee (HDC) is making progress, particularly in relation to agreeing a package for the promotion of the game.

“All the provincial councils have made submissions and the committee is in the course of finalising them,’’ Mr Kelly said.

“Once we’ve made the appointment, we’d hope to have the scheme up and running within a short time.’’

Mr Kelly said he wasn’t at liberty to say how many candidates they had interviewed, but he indicated that they were close to creating a shortlist.

He said the latest initiative (grant- aided to the tune of E1.5m by the Government) as “the most ambitious, comprehensive and, hopefully, practical plan” for hurling in the history of the Association.

He added: “Hurling is too unique, too special and too good a game to allow it deteriorate in any way.’’
