Carey and Shefflin continue to lead way

DJ CAREY continues to head the voting in the Guinness Legends selection. Hurling fans worldwide are going on line to select their team of the decade, since Guinness began to sponsor the All-Ireland SHC.

Carey is on 78% of all voter’s teams, Henry Shefflin has 69%, 61% want Brian Lohan in the full back line, while Cork captain Seán Óg Ó hAilpín has attained 57%.

Not all positions will be as easy to fill though. Brendan Cummins, Damien Fitzhenry and Clare’s Davy Fitzgerald battle for the goalkeeping spot. Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Willie O’Connor, Ollie Canning and Noel Hickey are all pushing for selection alongside Lohan in the full back line

Seán Óg, Seanie McMahon and Brian Whelehan remain the favourite half-back selection for the third week in a row, while in midfield Tommy Dunne and Colin Lynch head the field.

In the half-forward line, there is little to divide Martin Storey, John Leahy, Jamesie O’Connor, Joe Cooney and Ken McGrath, with Shefflin of course looking to be a dead cert.

DJ, the number one choice of 78% of voters, is partnered up front by Joe Deane and Eoin Kelly (Tipp) for the third week running.

Voting will continue until August 31, with the final team being announced in September.
