ULSTER counties, who voted not to allow any experimentation in the Dr McKenna Cup, are unhappy about such plans for the upcoming National League competitions.

And questions are being asked about the correctness of that decision. Ulster secretary Danny Murphy said when they organised their competition in November, there was no talk of rule changes being introduced. “Nobody made a judgment about these changes, but it was decided that the McKenna Cup should be played under existing rules,’’ he said.

With GAA president Seán Kelly saying it was Ulster’s prerogative not to come on board, he said their counties could be at a disadvantage in having no experience of the rule changes when the Leagues start.
