GAA: Killavullen prove too good for Macroom

WITHSTANDING some sustained late Macroom pressure, Killavullen won the Tom Creedon Cup for the first time in Macroom yesterday, beating the hosts 0-10 to 0-8 in a final that was lively and entertaining.

Twice in the last five minutes Macroom were denied goals they desperately sought to save the game but twice full-forward Olan Murphy was out of luck.

Inniscarra beat Youghal to win the Cork County MAFC final 1-10 to 0-10 at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday. In the end a fortuitous 39th goal from substitute Aidan O'Mahony proved decisive.

It knocked the sting out of a strong Youghal challenge and gave Inniscarra the impetus to go on and control the contest despite playing against the stiff breeze.

Big Dan O'Connell played a captain's part for Inniscarra, scoring six points, but he had plenty back-up.

A Michéal O’Riordan goal eight minutes from time helped Rathmore/Glenflesk progress in the Credit Union Duhallow U-21 Football Invitation Cup at Knocknagree yesterday by beating Ballincollig 1-13 to 0-12. O’Riordan was the key man.
