Waterford’s gutsy performance no surprise to a relieved Kennedy

CLARE manager John Kennedy said that it came as no surprise to him that Waterford had put up such a marvellous challenge after his side’s narrow victory in Ennis yesterday: “I always felt that this was going to be one hell of a battle and I was proved right.

"We had to work like hell to win and it would have been a severe setback if we had lost. We set out to get a result and thankfully, we achieved it.

"The tag of favouritism did not lie easily with us and in a game which ebbed and flowed, thankfully we got the rub of the green at last.
