Limerick mourns McDonnell

THE death has occurred in Limerick of Des McDonnell, manager of the county senior football team in the late 1970 and early 80s.

Mr McDonnell, a native of Louth, was also instrumental in having introduced gaelic football to the Monaleen club, and coached them to several underage titles, as well as the clubs senior team which claimed the county championship for the first time in 1978.

Limerick will play Tipperary this Sunday in a repeat of the 2004 Masters hurling final, at Hospital.
