Staunton superb as Mayo edge out Galway

Cora Staunton yet again inspired Mayo as they gained revenge over Galway with a four-point victory, 2-7 to 0-6, in Division 1A.

Mayo led 2-5 to 0-4 at the break after goals by Emma Mullin and Staunton.

Meanwhile, in Division 1B Meath defeated Louth at Pairc Tailteann, 3-16 to 2-5, while Dublin drew with Roscommon in Portmarnock, 1-9 to 0-12.

The Westerners enjoyed the better of the second-half after an Aisling McCormack goal had given Dublin a narrow lead at the break, 1-6 to 0-8.

Roscommon looked odds on for the win until Allstar Mary Nevin came off the bench to score a late equalising point.

In the other Division 1B game, Waterford got the better of Tyrone in Dunsany, 1-11 to 0-8.

On Saturday, All-Ireland junior champions Kildare caused something of a surprise with a one goal victory over last year’s beaten senior All-Ireland finalists Kerry, 1-16 to 0-16 in Division 1A.

Also in Division 1A on Saturday, Cork were comprehensive winners over Monaghan, 2-17 to 2-3.
