Abbeyside claim scalp of favourites and bridge 26 year gap

Midway through the second half midfielder Patrick Lynch nabbed the winner’s second goal to open up a six point gap, and while they battled right to the end De La Salle could never close the gap.

Fourmilewater 3-8 Dunhill/Fenor 1-13
FOURMILEWATER overcame a 10 point deficit to fashion a sensational one point victory over defending champions Dunhill/Fenor in the Waterford MHC ‘B’ final at Walsh Park yesterday.
Ahead by 1-10 to 1-3 at the interval, the titleholders added three rapid points within minutes of the restart, and at that stage it seemed that only their margin of victory remained to be determined.
But Fourmilewater, with their injured senior star Liam Lawlor operating at full forward, produced a stunning comeback.
Lawlor was the star of the show and his goal in the 54th minute narrowed the deficit to three points, 1-13 to 3-4. Points from him and Patrick Walsh left the minimum separating the sides.
Lawlor became the hero when he landed a 61st minute equaliser and seconds later rifled over what provided to be the priceless winner.
