June 21, SFC qualifier: Last gasp Roscommon pip Leitrim
It was a win that Roscommon scarcely deserved, as Leitrim put it up to their highly-rated neighbours for most of this game, and they led for the majority of a fascinating second half.
Donal Brennan’s 14th-minute goal saw Leitrim on level terms at half time: Leitrim 1-4, Roscommon 0-7.
But it was Leitrim, for whom Padraig McLaughlin was in excellent form in attack, who led by 1-8 to 0-8 with 15 minutes left.
A great goal from Roscommon full-forward Karl Mannion levelled the scores with 11 minutes left.
But Leitrim edged ahead with points from Brennan and McLaughlin, and it looked as if they had done enough when O’Connor popped up to save Roscommon’s bacon with that sensational late goal, and in that incident Leitrim goalkeeper Gareth Phelan was sent off.
