Ahane serve notice with big win over Kilmallock
It looked as if Kilmallock were ready to collect the two league points on
offer when scoring wonder Andrew O’Shaughnessey hit the net and followed up with a point inside the opening five minutes but then Ahane, inspired by John Meskell and Ollie Moran settled and a goal from a long range free by Meskell on nine minutes had them on their way.
Still Kilmallock managed to keep in front mainly through O’Shaughnessey with a brace of points and another from Mike Holohan but amazingly following that early burst, they managed just one more point in the remainder of the contest.
Goals from Alan Doherty and Padraig Ryan had Ahane in front by 2-8 to 1-5 at the interval.
Within minutes of the restart Sean O’Connor consolidated their position with another goal and with Kilmallock falling apart, Padraig Ryan and Brian Healy knocked in two more and it was all over at the three-quarter stage 5-9 to 1-5.
On 50 minutes Paddy Connery had Kilmallock’s lone second-half score but Ahane refusing to give up had further points from Niall Moran and John Meskell to register their biggest win in years.
