SEAMUS MURPHY tried hard to remain upbeat after seeing his team go so close to becoming the first winners of the new Bob O’Keeffe trophy in Croke Park yesterday.

To his credit, the Wexford manager was very positive, not making a big issue about the two controversial refereeing decisions at the end of the first half or about chastising the media for undervaluing his team.

Through all his bitter disappointment, he took obvious pride in the fact that they had been ‘part of a great game of hurling’. As he looks forward to the All-Ireland quarter-final at the end of the month, his big hope is that his team can build on yesterday’s brave display in the Leinster final.
