Donal Broderick dies

THE death occurred in Dromcollogher of Donal Broderick, corner-back on the Limerick team which shocked Clare in the 1955 Munster senior hurling final, and which became known as Mackey’s greyhounds. Limerick lost to Wexford in the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Broderick, a stylish performer, was also on the side which lost to Cork in the provincial final a year later. He held Christy Ring scoreless for 50 minutes, at which stage Limerick were ahead, but Ring moved to the other corner-forward position and rattled in two fast goals to deny the Shannonsiders back-to-back titles.
