St Brogan's too good for Treasa

St Brogan's Bandon 3-10 Colaiste Treasa, Kanturk 3-3

But it was not without a brave second-half Colaiste Treasa fightback which kept the Bandon boys on their toes.

Not until Cian Lordan's 55th minute goal, followed by a point from Fionán Keane could St Brogan's feel safe, the Kanturk side battling back from a nine-point interval deficit to get within three points of the champions with five minutes remaining.

But Brogan's deserved their victory. Strong down the middle were Michael Deasy, Chris O'Donovan and Keane. St Brogan's raced into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after the opening quarter, Keane goaling in the 14th minute, and as the rain poured down they continued to excel.

With superb hurling they struck for a goal and two points all in the 22nd minutes, a goal and a point coming from the stick of Roy Payne which put them well in the driving seatalthough the Kanturk boys did get a lifeline when Denis Roche raced through for a 25th minute goal to leave St Brogan's leading 2-7 to 1-1 at the break.

There was a huge improvement from Colaiste Treasa in the second half with Aidan O'Connor, Nicky Flanagan and Patrick Buckley coming more into the picture and in the 38th minute they were back in the contest when Buckley got his first goal after Lorcan McLoughlin's shot had been saved.

Trailing 2-9 to 2-3 entering the final quarter it got even better for the Kanturk battlers when McLoughlin set Buckley up for his second goal in the 48th minute and suddenly there was a sense of urgency in St Brogan's play.

Lordan's late goal for St Brogan's may have been a soft one but it was enough to end Colaiste Treasa's challenge and clinch the title.
