Ballingarry dethrone arch-rivals Mullinahone after see-saw battle

Ballingarry 1-15 Mullinahone 1-14

In the first-half Mullinahone looked sharper and with Eoin Kelly, Adrian Maher and Brian O’Meara leading the way with two points a piece, led 0-10 to 0-6 at half time. With pointed frees from the Kelly brothers Paul and Eoin the holders led 0-13 to 0-9 after 41 minutes. Ballingarry then upped their performance and four points from Philip Ivors, Johnny Holohan, Liam Cahill and Don Lyons tied the game.

Eoin Kelly restored Mullinahone’s lead with a point but on 51 minutes Lyons pounced for a Ballingarry goal and when John Holohan and Trevor Ivors fired over two points the champions trailed 1-15 to 0-14. In a hectic finish Eoin Kelly slammed home a free in the 60th minute but time ran out for the champions.

Carrick Swans 4-8 Killenaule 2-14

RIGHT half forward Joe Caesar came to the rescue with an equalising free for Killenaule after they fell behind to a Bobby Power goal on 59 minutes in this gripping South Tipp SHC semi final at Clonmel.

Swans opened in style with two points from Kieran Reid and then fell behind to a Jonathan Gleeson goal and five points from Michael Maher, Richard Maher, Gleeson and Caesar.

They recovered with an Alan P Ryan goal and when Ballingarry’s Declan Fallon and Swans’ Bobby Ryan exchanged further goals Killenaule led 2-8 to 2-4 at half time.

Killenaule shot into a six-point lead with three points when play resumed but Swans rallied with a Kieran Reid goal to trail 2-11 to 3-5. It was 2-12 to 3-8 with a minute to go when Ryan hit his second goal for Swans putting them clear 4-8 to 2-13 and in added time Caesar pointed the equalising free for Killenaule.

Moyle Rovers 1-8 Cahir 1-6

TRAILING 1-4 to 0-5 at half time Declan Browne got Moyle Rovers’ challenge back on track when he struck a match winning goal on 33 minutes to edge out Cahir in this Tipperary Cidona County SF quarter final at Clonmel on Saturday. Rovers opened with a point from Padraig Foley then led 0-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. Cahir responded with two frees from Benny Hickey before Michael Tarrant rocked the favourites with a goal on 19 minutes. Cahir went ahead 1-3 to 0-3 with a Liam Kiely point and with Browne and Hickey exchanging pointed frees Cahir led 1-4 to 0-5 at half time.

Browne then restored Rovers’ lead with his goal three minutes after the restart. His only point from play was matched by another Kelly point for Cahir and the scoring closed with Brian Mulvihill pointing twice for the winners and Hickey landing his fourth pointed free for Cahir.

Fethard 1-10 Aherlow 1-8

FETHARD had to pull out all the stops to see off the challenge of a Aherlow in this Tipperary SFC quarter final at Cashel on Saturday.

The winners got the better start and took an early lead with points from Brian Coen and Eoin Doyle. They tightened their grip with a Conor McCarthy goal and Aherlow who had responded with three pointed frees by Barry Grogan and a Seamus Grogan point trailed 1-5 to 0-4 at half time.

Barry Grogan had a goal and two points and with Carl Maher and Brian Coen hitting back for Fethard they led 1-7 to 1-6 on 45 minutes. A late exchange of points changed nothing.
