‘No bidding war for GAA rights’

THE launch of a dedicated sports channel by Setanta will not spark a bidding war for GAA rights in the Irish television market.

“No, they are of the viewpoint that there is plenty to go around in the Irish market,” an industry source said.

“They are keen to build what they have and that means working on an impressive collection of cross-channel soccer and rugby. I’m sure they will be looking to develop coverage of events, or aspects of events, that are not being catered for on terrestrial television.”
