Kelly won’t go for hurling director post

GAA PRESIDENT Sean Kelly has insisted he won’t “create a job for himself” by delaying the appointment of a new national hurling director.

Kelly won’t go for hurling director post

An appointment is expected later this month after up to 20 applications were received for the post last month. That would rule out Kelly, who has declared he will not apply for any job while president of the association.

“It’s an awkward one for me because I set up the HDC. I got the money from the Government for the position and I felt that if I was going to go forward for it would look very poorly from our point of view. They would say: ‘This guy set up a position for himself.’ So, I asked the HDC to go away and advertise it and to try and fill it,” Kelly told Setanta Sports yesterday.
