Críost Rí battle hard to secure place

REIGNING Corn Ui Mhiurí (Munster Colleges SFC) champions Coláiste Chríost Rí had to battle hard before securing their place in the quarter-finals with a 2-11 to 2-10 victory over Dingle CBS at Fossa yesterday.

Críost Rí needed just a point to reach the last eight. But two missed penalties from Cork minor Roy Leahy, and a general complacency in the first half almost cost them dearly.

Scorers Choláiste Chríost Rí: P Kerrigan (0-4, 1f), G Cummins (0-3), E Hegarty (1-0), B Newman (1-0), F Lynch (0-2), R Leahy (0-2, 1f, 1 pen).

Dingle CBS: C Ó Murchu (1-5), E MacGearailt (0-4f), T MacGearailt (1-0), S Ó Duignain (0-1)

ST BRENDAN’S are through to the knockout stages thanks to an easy 2-16 to 1-6 win over Glanmire Community College at Carrigadrohid yesterday.

There was never any doubt about the outcome after the Sem scorched into a five-point lead in the opening five minutes and, while the Glanmire lads battled gamely, the final scoreline reflects just how wide the gap in standards between the teams really was.

Scorers: St Brendan’s: B. Looney 0-6; K. O’Leary (0-2 frees) 1-3; J. Doolan 1-2; D. Murphy 0-3;

J. Falvey, P. O’Leary 0-1 each.

Glanmire: B. Kirby 1-2; D. Moulden 0-3 (0-2 frees); L. Furney 0-1.

INTERMEDIATE School, Killorglin produced an amazing second-half comeback to deny Tralee CBS 2-12 to 2-6 in this absorbing contest in Kilcunmin. Tralee only required a point to reach the knockout stages and looked well in control as they moved 1-4 to 0-1 in front after 20 minutes.

Killorglin and Tralee are on three points but Tralee have two games played. Tralee’s fate lies in Killorglin’s hands as they play Bishopstown in the final group game in two weeks’ time, and a win or draw by Killorglin will see both Kerry teams through. A win for the Cork side will see scoring

differences come into play.

Scorers: Killorglin: S Caulfield 1-4, G Sayers 0-4 (0-3 frees), F Coffey 1-0, E Kelliher 0-2, J O’Reilly and M Hallissey 0-1 each.

Tralee CBS: F Wallace 2-1 (0-1 ‘45), G O’Connell 0-3 (0-1 free), S Hennessey and T Walsh 0-1 each.
