Violence at under-age match

Ugly scenes marred an under-age GAA match in Sligo on Friday. Almost 100 spectators invaded the pitch after the County U16 'A' football championship final for the Gerald Grehan Cup at Markievicz Park.

St. John's were beating the holders St. Mary's by 2-8 to 1-5 four minutes into stoppage time when the disturbance erupted.

Referee Anthony McGowan was at the opposite end of the pitch, where an injured player was being attended to, when spectators jumped the wire fencing surrounding the pitch.
