Mayo and Kerry look to have the right credentials

THIS will be the the third meeting of the sides in this year’s championship when Mayo play Galway in the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football semi- finals at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 1.30pm.

Though Mayo won the first two games by 10 and 11 points Galway have improved greatly and looked impressive in their quarter-final win over Tyrone.

Geraldine Connelly was top scorer with seven points and her contribution along with those of Gillian Joyce, Lisa Cohill and Lorna Joyce will be vital to Galway's chances today.

Keeper Joanna Connolly has been dropped in favour of minor keeper, Una Carroll.

The All-Ireland champions too had a good outing in the quarter-final, beating Waterford by nine points.

Michelle McGing, excelled on the wing as did Marcella Heffernan and Emma Mullin.

Much will depend on the contribution of Cora Staunton and she may prove to be the difference between the sides.

Verdict: Mayo

Dublin v Kerry O'Moore Park. Portlaoise, 3pm.

DUBLIN, the Leinster champions, are big and powerful . Kerry's game, by comparison is based on skill and speed.

Midfielders Angie McNally, Bernie Finlay and Niamh McEvoy are the key to Dublin's chances today as Kerry are a little weak in the centre.

But Kerry have a trump card too, two in fact Geraldine O'Shea and Kasey O'Driscoll.

Arguably the most lethal attacking partnership in the game, if the supply of ball is plentiful they could do untold damage to a Dublin full-back line that is not the fastest.

Verdict: Kerry.
