During the 90-minute debate, strong views were expressed on both sides. Winner of eight All Ireland medals, John Doyle, opposed the proposal to open Croke Park to other codes, claiming it would cause bitterness and division in the GAA.

All Ireland medal winner and former team manager, Len Gaynor supported the proposal: “We should not be afraid to facilitate other games. It is the neighbourly thing to do.”

Meanwhile Westmeath County Board have given clubs until April 13 to examine all the Rule 42 motions down for discussion at Congress.
