International camogie tournament for Dublin
The inaugural Coca Cola International Series will feature teams from Ireland, Britain, mainland Europe and North America.
The sides will compete in a round robin competition from October 13 with the final to be played in Croke Park as the curtain raiser to the first International Rules Game on Sunday October, 17.
The Irish representatives will be drawn from the Purcell Cup combined third-level colleges team named earlier this year.
The side will be captained by Galway’s Therese Maher and will be managed by former Tipperary hurling star Michael Cleary who led the Premier county to three consecutive senior camogie All-Ireland titles.
Camillus King, Anne Dolan, Rita Broderick and Michelle Davis will join him as selectors.
“This is a unique step for us, we are delighted to have an international dimension to our games, particularly in this our centenary year,” Camogie Association President Miriam O’Callaghan said yesterday.
“We are very grateful to Sean Kelly and the GAA for their generous grant towards this event and also to Coca Cola Bottlers Ireland who have joined us as official sponsors of the event. We will be hoping to develop the international dimension to camogie over the coming years.”
