GAA refuses to open up Croke Park

GAA CHIEFS have shelved plans to open up Croke Park to other sports by taking the matter off the agenda for next month’s annual congress.

GAA refuses to open up Croke Park

A committee of eight ex-GAA presidents struck down motions from eight counties relating to the opening up of Croke Park on the basis they were not properly framed. The decision is “a black day” for the GAA, former presidential candidate Noel Walsh said last night.

The Rule 42 motions on the agenda for the congress in Killarney may have failed because they did not seek to amend Rule 5, which states the association and its resources be dedicated solely to the aims of the association.
