Cork win All-Ireland despite late Galway revival
On a very humid day Cork, who were winning the title for the 12th time, were the better side. They were quicker to the ball and were 1-2 to 0-1 up after 17 minutes, their goal, an opportunist one, coming from Margaret McCarthy in the 17th minute. Emer Watson's effort for a point came back off the post and McCarthy was on hand to billow the back of the net.
Scores were hard to come by, but with the Galway defence inclined to foul and Noreen Mulcahy in excellent form from placed balls the Rebels managed to turn over leading by 1-7 to 0-2 at the break.
