Cooper on fire as Crokes win

The county star scored two goals one with his head but he also had a key role in the other three strikes.

His first goal came after 16 minutes after good work from Kieran Brosnan and James Fleming. Cooper gave keeper David Hennebry little chance.

Cooper turned provider for the next, finding Eoin Brosnan who calmly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper. The Killarney men were 2-4 to 0-4 clear at half time.

A Michael Collins point on the resumption inspired new hope for Austin Stacks but the celebration was shortlived. Goals from Mike Crowley and Brosnan extended the advantage.

There was more drama for Cooper as a pass from Mike Crowley bounced off the marksman's head and looped over the keeper for their fifth goal.

Scorers: Dr Crokes: C. Cooper 2-5 (0-1 free), E. Brosnan 2-0, D. Moloney 0-1 (free). Austin Stacks: M. Collins 0-3 (0-2 frees), B. Sheehan 0-2, D. Long, K. Donaghy and P. McCannon 0-1 each.

Listowel Emmetts 1-8 Kilcummin 1-7

FORMER All-Ireland winner Noel Kennelly propelled Listowel to a narrow victory in a tense AIB Kerry SFC tie in Kilcummin yesterday.

Kilcummin dominated in the opening period but failed to press home their advantage.

Kerry full-back Mike McCarthy at centre forward, fed Sean Lenihan for the first goal and a four point lead (1-6 to 0-5) for the East Kerry side.

Kennelly switched to the central berth on the restart and Listowel began to enjoy greater dominance in the centre. Within ten minutes, Kennelly, despite falling to the ground, kicked ahead to Brian Scanlon and the Kerry junior star deftly put the ball in the roof of the net.

Scorers: Listowel Emmetts: B. Scanlon 1-3 (0-2 frees), N. Kennelly 0-4 (0-2 frees), M. Whelan 0-1. Kilcummin: D. J. Fleming 0-5 (0-4 frees), S. Lenihan 1-0, R. O'Connor, P. O'Donoghue 0-1.
