Classy Colman’s prove too hot for North Mon to handle
Terrific displays from full-back Don O’Connell, centre-back Ken Kearney, midfielders Shane Cotter and Leo Sexton and some great talent up front in Luke McCarthy, Shane Kearney, and Fergal Ryan always had the Mon on the back foot as they struggled to cope with the pace and skill of the Fermoy outfit. Despite Pat Barry getting the Mon off to the perfect start with a pointed free after only two minutes, they had to wait until a minute before the break for their second, Eoin Cronin pointing from play. Barry and Cotter accounted for all the Mon scores but Colman’s were simply the masters all over the park and with Ken Kearney in superb form at centre- back they hit back quickly.
Eoin Barry pointed, Ryan followed with the first of his five first-half frees, and then a goal that epitomised the quality and speed of their play. A terrific run by Cotter put Shane Kearney clear and he set up James Barry for a cracking goal to put Colman’s 1-2 to 0-1 clear after the opening quarter.
