Tipp coach Brother Joseph Perkins dies

The death has occurred of Brother Joseph Perkins who passed away on Thursday morning. Brother Perkins was associated with the GAA in Tipperary for many years.

He served as coach on the Tipperary minor hurling team for a number of years, helping them to Munster and All-Ireland honours in 1980 and 1982 and a Munster title in 1983.

Along with County Board vice-chairman John Costigan, Brother Perkins trained the Templemore CBS team which won the Dr Harty Cup and All-Ireland Colleges titles in 1978.

Brother Perkins was also involved with GAA schools teams during his time in Nenagh CBS and Thurles CBS.

At County Board level, Brother Perkins served as County Youth Officer as well as Bord na nÓg representative.

His weekly GAA column Tales of the Gaels was widely read over a number of years.
