Nightmare match for Russell sees Longford through to final

Wexford manager, Dom Twomey must have been fuming as his side finished with a four point defeat with Longford celebrating a place in the final following this exciting O’Byrne Cup semi-final at Gorey yesterday.

Wexford side looked to be cruising, leading 0-5 to 0-1 after 28 minutes. Then, in the space of 60 seconds, Russell pressed the self-destruct button as Longford poached two goals which broke Wexford hearts. The first of those arrived on 29 minutes when Russell failed to deal with an Enda Ledwith dipping shot, which crashed back off the crossbar leaving corner-forward Trevor Smullen with the simplest of tap-ins.
