Mallow see off Cork champions

A performance rich in character, highlighted by a quality goal from centre-forward David Lavin, swept Mallow to a memorable victory and a quarter-final meeting with Aghada.

In the first game at Macroom, Bishopstown ended the fairytale for Ilen Rovers when James O'Shea's last gasp point earned the cityside a slender 0-11 to 0-10 victory and they now face O'Donovan Rossa in the quarter-finals.

On a miserable weekend for West Cork teams, their divisional representatives Carbery kept the flag flying with a narrow 0-13 to 1-9 win over CIT at Kilmurry last evening.

In the Cork IFC Ballinora had to toil mightily for their 1-10 to 1-7 quarter-final victory over Carrigaline at Bandon on Saturday, recovering from lethargic starts in both halves to book a semi-final date with either Carbery Rangers or Macroom.

In the Cork U-21 FC, Kildorrery had a 1-6 to 1-5 victory over Beara at Inchigeelagh, O'Donovan Rossa beat Ballincollig 1-11 to 0-5 at Ballineen, while champions St. Nicholas lost their crown, losing 0-14 to 1-4 to Nemo Rangers in the City final replay at Pairc Ui Rinn.
