KERRY manager Paídí Ó Sé is not concerned by the debate over who should occupy the full back slot for the county ahead of the Munster SFC semi-final against Tipperary.

Wanted. Excellent full back. Contact Páidí, Kerry.

Ó Sé and the Kingdom his selectors have restored Seamus Moynihan to his preferred centre back spot for the Kingdom’s first of the championship game, with Eamon Fitzmaurice manning the edge of the square.

In a bid to grant Moynihan greater freedom, the Kerry management had tried a number of players in the role with Barry O’Shea and Tomas Ó Sé both auditioning during the NFL.

Ó Sé is confident that it will not be problematic.

“Believe it or not, I don’t see it as a major worry,” he told The Kerryman.

“You are not talking about orthodox full back lines any more. Teams are doing a lot of swapping and changing and normally playing two men inside.

“What I am looking for at the back is someone who is lively on his feet, disciplined and good overhead. I am confident we have enough players on the panel who can do those things.”

However He admits quality defenders are in short supply, citing the loss of Castleisland Desmonds’ Mossy Lyons as a case in point.

“There isn’t a great shot of quality backs in the county at the moment and Mossy is certainly going to be a loss. He has the experience and he’s been with us for a few years.”

His new full back will have a busy afternoon with All Star, Declan Browne who scored ten points in Tipp’s three point win over Waterford in their Bank of Ireland Munster SFC opener.

“They channel an awful lot of ball through Declan Browne,” Ó Sé concedes, “and he’s an exceptionally good kicker off both feet. They also have two good midfielders and the Waterford game will bring them on.”

Kerry are aiming to plant a marker for their upcoming season, the manager has warned.

“I’m making no secret of the fact that I want Kerry to lay down the foundations on Sunday for the direction that we want to go for the rest of the year.”
