Feast of juvenile hurling in Carlow

The cream of the country’s juvenile hurlers will parade their skills on Saturday week, July 2, at the ninth annual All-Ireland U16 club tournaments at the Carlow Town hurling club grounds.

The blitz, which commences at 10.30am, is broken into two groups, & depending on the strength of the respective teams, and the entry is limited to 40 teams, on a first come first served basis.

Glen Rovers are the defending ‘A’ champions and were also winners in 2000 while Erins Own were victors in 1999 and Bishopstown in 2002.

Portlaoise won the inaugural ‘A ‘group in 1997, followed by St. Rynagh’s of Offaly. De la Salle of Waterford took the 2001 honours with Kilmallock Limerick the 2003 winners.

Carrigaline are the defending Group B winners, which was won the initial two years by Inniscarra, who also were victors in 2001.

Causeway (Kerry) and Burgess (Tipperary) won in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

The only Leinster Group B winners have been the Rower-Inistioge from Kilkenny in 2002 while Cushendal of Antrim brought the honours north in 2003.
