Mayo introduce three newcomers for clash with Sligo

MAYO manager John Maughan introduces three newcomers for Sunday’s NFL tie with Sligo in Castlebar.

Brendan Prendergast has been handed the number six shirt, while Liam Moffett and Niall Moran have been named at right and left corner-forward respectively. Brian Moloney continues to be an absentee through injury.

Kieran McDonald, who has not featured in Mayo’s Connacht League campaign to date, joins his Crossmolina clubmates Peadar Gardiner, James Nallen and Liam Moffatt in the line-up.

Tyrone begin the defence of their Allianz NFL title without their Errigal Ciaran players. Seven members of the club side, including skipper Peter Canavan, have been withdrawn from the county squad for Sunday’s clash with Roscommon at Hyde Park.

Manager Mickey Harte, who is also in charge of Errigal Ciaran, confirmed that none of the county champions’ players will be involved at Hyde Park, with the exception of goalkeeper John Devine, who will be on the bench.

Limerick give league debuts to Padraig Browne and John Miskell for their trip to Cloone to play Leitrim. Browne is named at left half-back while Miskell is in at right corner-forward. Dual player Brian Begley is chosen at full-forward for what will be his first league outing with the county footballers in two years.

The Shannonsiders are short five first choice players through injury and holidays.

Fresh from their McGrath Cup final win over Clare last Sunday, Tipperary play the Banner men again in the opening round of the league at Ardfinnan.

Declan Browne, who scored three points when introduced as a second half substitute, is in from the start. Browne’s inclusion at full-forward means a switch to midfield for Eamon Hanrahan. Fergal O’Callaghan moves out from centre-forward to partner Hanrahan. Kevin Mulrayn is the player to lose out.

The entire attack has been completely rearranged with only Denis Byrne in the same position from last Sunday. Aidan Fitzgerald, who played at midfield in the McGrath Cup final, will lead the attack .

With regular goalkeeper Padraic Kelly having withdrawn from the county panel, Offaly introduce Colin McNamara for Sunday’s NFL fixture against Louth in Drogheda. Ger Rafferty and Neville Coughlan are both listed on the half back-line, thus ruling the dual players out of the Offaly hurling side which plays Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup semi-final in Birr.

The Longford team to play Carlow at Dr. Cullen Park shows two changes from the side which failed to Kildare in last Sunday’s O’Byrne Cup final. Gary Tonra returns between the posts in place of Christy Byrne as the position rotates between the two, while Niall Sheridan comes in at full-forward for David Barden.

Waterford manager Denis Walsh introduces five newcomers to league football for the trip to Wexford Park to take on the home side. John Sheehan, Joe O’Reilly, Edmond Rockett, Martin Walsh and Billy Harty all start for the Decies.
