Westmeath stun Dublin and send favourites reeling towards back door

The result caused the first of the two shock results at Croke Park yesterday, setting up a novel pairing between themselves and Wexford in the second of the Leinster senior football championship semi-finals next month.

If mystery had surrounded this Dublin team going into yesterday's quarter final, it had thickened as the players and manager walked off the pitch, fans many of them already pouring from the stands leaving them in no doubt about how they performed and particularly the manner in which they collapsed under the pressure applied by Westmeath in the second half.
