Murphy to step down as Galway official

PHELIM MURPHY, one of the longest serving officials in GAA, is to retire as secretary of the Galway Hurling Board at the end of the year.

During his 23 years in office, Murphy acted a selector for a number of sides and presided over 18 All-Ireland titles at various levels.

Murphy has been active in the GAA throughout his life. He spent over 20 years as chairman of his club Turloughmore, during which time they won the Galway SHC title six years in a row, a record that still stands.
