Their greatest strengths was an ardent attack where the outstanding Lourda Kavanagh struck for an amazing 11 points while Mary Kelly netted two first-half goals.
Played in wet and miserable conditions the visitors led at the interval by four points, (2-8 to 2-4). However, the northerners were well in contention with majors from Una Elliott and Elaine Dowds.
But, superbly led by wing-back Lizzie Flynn the westerners managed to limit the home team to just one score in the entire second half a goal from Majella Connolly.

Granagh/Ballingarry, (Limerick) 2-11 St Lachtains Freshford, (Kilkenny) 0-10
GRANAGH/BALLINGARRY overcame a determined challenge from the Leinster champions before claiming victory at St Lachtain's Park yesterday.
Just four points separated the sides after 30-minutes of play, but the all-important goal came from a superb shot from Joanne Clifford minutes into second half.
Aoife Sheehan and Clifford proceeded to carve open the home defence and when the likes of Eileen O'Brien and Jean Cullinane got into their stride it was clearly going to be the Shannonsider's day.
Granagh/Ballingarry led by 1-5 to 0-4 at half time thanks to an opportunist opening goal from O'Brien.
The Kilkenny girls never struck their true form and were forced to rely heavily on the accuracy of Imelda Kennedy from frees who finished with seven points.
