Injury-free Glencan complete the job against UCC

GLEN ROVERS report no injury problems for tonight’s Cork Permanent TSB SHC replay against UCC at Páirc Ui Chaoimh, 8pm.

However, UCC are again unlikely to include the three Kilkenny seniors, John Tennyson, James Fitzpatrick and Tommy Walsh because of the All-Ireland qualifier the following week. They could also be without Tipp’s Colin Morrissey for the same reason.

Shane Kennefick will surely start for the Glen, as he was hugely influential in defence in the drawn game.

A greater contribution from Seanie McGrath, David Busteed, Diarmuid Dorris and John Anderson and the Blackpool side could complete the job, but Tom Kenny, Eamon Collins, Canice Hickey and Rory O’Doherty will make very hard for them.

THE Munster U-21 HC game between Cork and Waterford will be played next Tuesday evening at Páirc Ui Chaoimh. The game was due to have been played on Wednesday.

With three seniors on the U21 team, Cian O’Connor, Kieran Murphy (the captain) and John Gardiner (injured for the game against Clare), senior management wanted the game to be deferred for a week. However, this was not possible.

For a start, while Waterford agreed to the change to Tuesday, chairman Paddy Joe Ryan pointed out that they were not in a position to agree to a deferment.

“We have senior hurling championship games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the following weekend (July 9/10/11) and the senior football championship the weekend after,’’ he said.
