Wexford put Down to the sword

Down’s 41 point mauling at the hands of an under-strength Wexford has cast Ulster hurling in a new light, for it only came seven days after Antrim’s demolition by Tipperary.

This Division 1B Allianz National Hurling League game at Wexford Park had reached farcical proportions by the 17th minute by which stage Wexford led 1-8 to 0-1.

Wexford manager Seamus Murphy said they could not take anything really out of the game. “It’s not good for hurling. One would not expect such a one-sided game in Division 1 but the hurling problems are there for everyone to see outside the big six teams,” he said.
