Flanagan set for Westmeath comeback

MARTIN FLANAGAN, who missed Westmeath’s glorious 2004 odyssey, is set to make a dramatic return to the county colours.

Sources in the county say he will return to training this week, possibly tonight.

The Tyrellspass player was a member of the Westmeath panel early last season but he withdrew with an injury problem.

There was speculation that relations between himself and the team management had broken down, and it is understood discussions took place in recent weeks.

His return would be a massive boost for Westmeath as they struggle to cope with the loss of a number of panellists from last season, including regular wing-forwards Brian Morley and Fergal Wilson.

The supremely-talented Flanagan offers options at midfield, centre-forward and full-forward for the Lake County.
