Dual star Cummins gets the all-clear

A BUSINESS trip to America has ruled Eddie Enright out of the Tipperary side for next Sunday's Guinness All-Ireland SHC quarter-final clash with Antrim at Croke Park.

The Thurles Sarsfield’s player, and former UCC Fitzgibbon Cup star, missed the Munster championship because of a hand injury but was recalled for the All-Ireland champions’ last qualifier against Offaly when Conor Gleeson was forced to cry off because of a dead leg.

In Gleeson’s absence, team captain Tomás Dunne moved to centre forward with Enright and Noel Morris forming a new midfield partnership.

Dunne now reverts back to midfield with Gleeson returning on the forty.

Dual player and star goalkeeper Brendan Cummins was given the all- clear to play after a fitness test at Semple Stadium last night. Cummins damaged a stomach muscle during last Sunday’s Munster football final replay with Cork at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Galway, victors over Cork last time out, have sprung a real surprise for their quarter-final game with Clare, also scheduled for Croke Park on Sunday. Alan Kerins, who was left out of the starting 15 against Cork is now named at midfield with Cathal Moore dropping down to the substitutes bench.Kerins normally operates as a forward. His elevation to midfield status, because of his lack of inches, will be watched with interest. The reintroduction of Kerins is the only change on the Galway team from that which shattered Cork’s ambitions.

Clare have also made one change on their team from that which defeated Wexford a fortnight ago. Tony Carmody is restored to his full forward position with Alan Markham moving to left corner forward to the exclusion of Conor Earley. Paddy Richmond, younger brother of top scorer Liam, has won his spurs on the Antrim team. He has been named at full forward in place of Aidan Delargy, who was ruled out because of a jaw injury sustained in a club game.
