UPWARDLY MOBILE: Padraig Power, the IRFU Chief Commercial Officer will now assume the additional duties of deputy CEO at Lansdowne Road.

IRFU commercial boss Padraig Power has been appointed deputy CEO of the Union with immediate effect. He will continue to serve as the Union's Chief Commercial Officer.

Power joined the IRFU in 2000 as Promotions and Marketing Manager before taking up the Commercial and Marketing directorship over 20 years ago with responsibility for commercial growth across all IRFU revenue streams, including ticketing, hospitality, match day revenues and sponsorship.

"Under his stewardship, the IRFU has built the largest sports sponsorship portfolio in Ireland, partnering with leading global brands such as Vodafone, Diageo, Canterbury, Aviva, PwC, and many others. His strategic leadership has played a central role in strengthening the financial foundations of Irish Rugby," said a statement.

In 2022 Power’s remit was further expanded to include oversight of the Union’s operations function, and he assumed the position of Chief Commercial Officer, reflecting his broadened responsibilities across the organisation.

He also serves on the Board of the United Rugby Championship (URC), the Aviva Stadium Board, and is a member of the London Finals Organising Committee for the new Nations Championship tournament.

Said IRFU chair Declan Madden: “The enhancement of (Padraig's) role to include Deputy CEO reflects both the increasing complexity of the organisation and our confidence in his ability to help assist the Union through its next phase of growth. Padraig brings experience, stability and a deep understanding of the game, and we are fortunate to have him step into an expanded role.”
