Pat Finn appointed Head of Motorsport

Motorsport Ireland has announced the appointment of Thurles native Pat Finn as their Head of Motorsport, a new role where he will be responsible for the day-to-day running of Motorsport in Ireland along with implementing the strategic plan, building relationships, networking with community business organisations and overseeing all motorsport related activities.

The governing body of Irish motorsport are without a chief executive since April 2021 when Leo Hassett stepped away from his role as CEO of the RIAC/Motorsport Ireland and in early July, Motorsport Ireland advertised for a "Head of Motorsport" a new position within their organisation.

With over two decades of leadership experience in the Irish sports industry Finn joins Motorsport Ireland from Left Field Sports Consulting having previously held the position of CEO with the Golfing Union of Ireland until the GUI and ILGU were fused under the Golf Ireland umbrella. 

He said, “I’m delighted to be joining Motorsport Ireland, an organisation with a proud heritage and a passionate community at its core. Irish motorsport has an exceptional pipeline of talent and a highly capable team, who are committed to delivering real progress. I look forward to working with everyone across the sport, along with our key external stakeholders, to drive the current strategy forward and to build on the strong foundations that the community has established.” 

Meanwhile, MI president Aiden Harper, who recently announced a pause on all MI Commission and MI Council appointments for 2026 to allow time and stability for an independent facilitator to assess all areas of our sport/organisation, said, “We are delighted to welcome Pat into the organisation. Pat is joining an excellent existing team and we look forward to working with him to lead the organisation, and our sport, into the future.” 

Finn's roles will be designated by the board of the Irish Motorsport Federation headed by chair Arthur Collier, who added, “Pat will be a great addition to the organisation and brings with him a wealth of sports industry experience and a fresh perspective that will greatly enhance our operations.” 

Finn will take up the new role of Head of Motorsport at the beginning on next January.
