Diver Oliver Dingley qualifies for the Olympics to end Ireland’s 68-year wait

Oliver Dingley has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The 23-year-old finished 11th in the 3m event preliminaries at the Diving World Cup to secure one of the qualification berths for Rio.

Dingley won a 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medal for England and previously contested the British Olympic Trials.

However his dissatisfaction at a number of selection decisions made triggered his switch to represent Ireland.

Eddie Herrin was the last man to represent Ireland in diving in the 1948 London Games.
