Umpire takes major league dive after mid-game hit
Baseball umpire Hunter Wendeldstedt took a rather dramatic tumble in Toronto last Saturday.
Standing as a first-base umpire in the match between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays during the fifth inning Wendeldstedt became more involved in the action than he expected.
The Baltimore centre-fielder Adam Jones was headed for second base when Wendeldstedt did not get out of the way in time.
What looked like a very slight glancing knock from Jones sent Wendeldstedt flying hard into the dust even banging his head off the sandy surface.
He recovered quickly however, climbing to his feet and replacing his baseball cap before going to speak to the player.
Hopefully there’s no hard feelings!
