Kerry native Tommy Walsh has returned to action with the Sydney Swans after 11 months out of the game with a hamstring injury.

Walsh made his comeback in a 100-25 victory over UWS Giants for the Swans’ second string side at ANZ Stadium.

Walsh tore his hamstring off the bone last June and consequently missed the end of last year’s campaign as well as an entire pre-season as he fought to return to full fitness.

In April, Kilkenny hurler Michael Fennelly who spent a stint in Australia with the Swans on work experience said he believed Walsh might be content to return home such was the ‘uphill battle’ he faced in rehabbing the injury.

“He’d a massive hamstring injury. He’s after missing 3 months of pre-season, even though he’s been doing a mountain of training himself. Hopefully he might get back in there but they’ve 40 something players on the panel there so it’s an uphill battle,” Fennelly said.

“I think he’d love to come home because he does miss it and he’s been there five years. His contract is up this year. Either way he’d be happy to come home or stay there. It’s a big year. I think he’d be fairly content to come home; he misses Kerry and his family and that. Five years is a long time.”
